Yesterday, I went to a psychic fair in the local flee market. She pretty much did a general Tarrot Cards reading about my near future (Say within one year or so). The interesting thing is that whatever she told me, may be true fo my near future, however, every thing said applied to my very near past. For example, she told me I will get a dog. This is almost impossible because my wife is extremely allergic to dogs. We have tried it in the past and failed. Could it be, just minutes ago, I was checking out a pet store (Specifically dogs) while I waited for my appointment with the Psychic, and she read those thoughts, and interpreted as me getting a dog? Could it also be, that she was getting all these energies from my past and interpreting them as my future?

I believe you have hit the nail on the head. I would say that the psychic you visited with was definitely picking up on what you had recently experienced. This is not to say that all psychics work in this way. A medium psychic works in an entirely different way.
Also, I think you have to bear in mind, that the skill needed in accepting and sharing the gift of psychic ability, is of course in the interpretation. This is personal to each psychic, and I would expect, through trial and error, a reading may be accurate or wrong depending on the interpretation at the time.

are women impressed more by psychics ?

I was at a party last night, wherein the hostess had invited a local "psychic reader" to come and give readings (for a fee). Each person desiring to be read wrote something on a slip of paper: either a question to be answered, or just your initials. The psychic would take the paper, ask who "MA" is, then proceed with the reading.
The reading consisted of him describing my "aura". Auras have many colors, and the colors mean different things. Most everyone present had "healthy" auras, but some indication of potential future problems with the lower extremities. There were a lot of people destined to have problems with their right knee. He also talked about events in a past life, lucky numbers, etc. He really made no falsifiable, specific claims.
I found the whole event rather boring. It was like watching "John Edwards", but you can't change the channel. Most of the women, however, seemed favorably impressed.

Psychic Test Tarot Cards

I like that idea Snuggles that the people are actually picking out tarot cards with which they identify with the most. Put there is also sometimes a psychic pull to the object that is the most relevant. I can feel it when I am doing the lotto...it feel like energy is jerking my eyes over to the correct area. It's like an energy wave so I think of it as Psi surfing. Also, images may come into my mind and sometimes I hear words. The trouble with that is I don't know unless someone confirms it if I am correct or not. I did have autism as a child and I have MPD so I have to be wary if what I am hearing is valid or not.
On the Rhine/Zenner Psychic Test Cards (the ones with the symbols: Star, Wavy Lines, Circle, etc. I can feel that energy pull my mind to the correct card too. So I think it may be a combination of people subconsciously identifying themselves to the cards (as you mentioned.. however in the Tree of Life method if I recall correctly the only thing the other person did was cut the deck and didn't actually pick out a card), also the reader being able to make educated guesses and read the body language of who they are talking to. But, also I can't discount that sometimes there was a stronger pull to the things that happened to be true.
Also, like I said you don't need cards really to use Psi to read a person. What I think you do need is someone with a mind that is easy to read. Some people are very blocked and some are like open books. Once, I stumbled across a temporary chat room about telepathy. I didn't realize it at first but it was a sort of trap set up by a woman who was addicted to getting her fortune read. I entered her room and she was talking to another woman. She asked me right off if I would tell her her fortune. I told her that I thought her chatroom was a discussion group and that I'm not a fortune teller but if she liked I could try and pick up some vibes on her just for fun. But then the other woman there said "No do me first!" So, I told the other woman she had long red curly hair and she was a college student and I could see her in my mind sitting on some concrete basement steps. She said this was true. I was amazed myself because I just sort of blurted it out and how could that be true? She was really open and nice and I wanted to talk to her some more about the recent death of her boyfriend (which I also vibbed into)...but then the other woman kicked her out of the room and told me she had set up the room so she could get only her fortune read and she wanted me to read her now.
So, I told her that she was an old retiree that lived in a trailer in Florida and that she was a gambler, drinker and a chainsmoker. She said none of this was true and she was insulted. I didn't care I didn't like her anyway and I left.

Tarot cards being evil: When I asked some people which were the best tarot cards to buy they said "The Aquarian deck is pretty good but avoid the Crawley deck at all costs". I asked them why and they said that they had heard that people who play with that deck get possessed or go insane because Crawley thought he was 666. However, I have talked to other people who said that they had success with the Crawley cards and didn't have any wierd experiences with them.
I then went to a Magick shop and bought the Aquarian deck and a book which explained how to read the cards. Then a friend in high school convinced me to go along with her to see David Wilkerson with her (a Christian) and he was against Tarot cards and pretty much everything else too.
After seeing David Wilkerson I had a nightmare about the cards so I threw them and the book away in the dumpster bin. I then went and visited with some neighbors for a few minutes in the apartment where I was living with a roommate. Upon entering my apt. I saw that the book and cards were back on the coffee table. This really freaked me out because I didn't know how the F they got there. However there was a reasonable explanation. My roommate (who I didn't know was home) said she saw me throwing them away and so she went out and rescued them from the dumpster.
She convinced me that the cards weren't evil and that I just had freaked out because of the Christians. She wouldn't give them back to me for free so I bought her a six pack and she gave me my cards and book back.
Then nothing happened with the cards for about 5 years until I got another roommate who thought they were cool and asked me to learn how to read them so I could do a reading for her. They were very easy to learn and I tried both methods and decided I liked using the 'Tree of Life' method the best.
I practiced reading the cards on her and also on her sister and their friends. I had pretty good success with them and people confirmed what I was saying was valid, and everyone had fun and things were going along well until my roommate brought home a girlfriend one day.
The cards seemed to be telling me that this woman had come from a dysfunctional family which centered upon abuse from an alchoholic father. When, I asked her if she and her mother had been abused and abandoned by a dad with a drinking problem she went ballistic! It turned out to be very true and she had told my roommate about her father and she thought my roommate had told me and that's how I knew about him. My roommate denied this and tried to calm the hysterical woman down who finally left in a huff but not without saying "Well if you did see that in the cards then you are a freak and what you are doing is evil!" My roommate winked at me and said "I have to walk her to the car...wait I'll be right back!"
When she came back she laughed and said "I can't believe that happened...that was so funny! I want to invite more people over so you can do it on them."
I said "I don't know about that, I don't want to upset anyone...look at how upset your friend got about her father."
My roommate said "Oh don't mind her she is always like that, she is kind of a bitch but I still like hanging around with her."
I haven't done tarot cards since then but I have learned that they are only a tool and you can read/hear/sense things about the past, present and future in many things. I am not sure what is behind it, some of it I believe is just sensing the energy but sometimes it goes deeper than that and I believe others are helping me. I don't think it's evil, I think it's just another human ability and it should be encouraged and developed.

psychics and physics

Well just today the thought popped into my head to call in sick to work, and I almost did it. Didn't even have a reason for it, as I like my job and I'm not sick. Then a couple of hours into my shift, I get a call from my mom that my uncle is in the hospital with MRSA and I need to come home to take care of my kid while she runs to the hospital. Things like that happen to me sometimes. Not with any great frequency, but often enough to make me go hmmmm.
My friend is gifted with the ability to read people, effect outcomes, and see future events. He also uses tarot cards, but often things just come to him. He's told me a couple of stories of visions he's had that made my hair stand on end, and when we first started talking, he listed a bunch of specific things that he "read" from me, and it was down-right spooky. Also runs in the family for him, as he said his mother is gifted.
I believe we know very little about how the universe works, and these psychic phenomena will some day be explained by science. We're living in an age in which theoretical physicists seriously discuss parallel universes, multiple dimensions, and time travel. And then you have quantum mechanics which is a very, very odd science and also fairly new--and chances are, whatever gives psychics their abilities happens at the atomic level and we just don't understand it yet.

I used to read tarot cards too. Then one of my best friends called me from another state, asking me to read her cards over the phone. Her b/f was missing, and she had bad feelings about it. So, I focused on her, she focused on her boyfriend, and I started laying the cards. After I had laid the cards, I did what your father couldn't- I told her her boyfriend was dead. She said ok, and hung up. A few hours later, she called me back, hysterical. The police had found her boyfriends body near the mountains. They had found him within the same hour I read the cards. He shot himself. It's been a LONG time now, since I have touched the cards. Many people do not believe. I am not one of those people. Hell, I remember my mother doing a "spell" to see what sex I would be- I was still in her womb. My brother validates that he remembers my mom doing this "spell", because he was with her when she did it. He was my oldest brother.

We all have our own opinions on this, but this one thing (and several others) really did happen.
My father was psychic even though he was a gigantic ass. His mother was psychic too, though I never met her. They both used tarot cards to focus their abilities. Supposedly, it's handed down to one child each generation. My sister was supposed to get the "gift", but she spurned it in favor of Jesus. She refused to be taught how to read cards.
Before she found Jesus, she asked my father to read her fortune. He got the cards out, and she touched them, and he started to focus as he turned over the cards. After he had turned over 3 cards, he got a very serious look on his face, and he said, "I can't tell you anything."
Within the year, my sister's son suicided and it tore the family apart. Later I asked my father if he had seen this, and he just nodded. It was all very surreal.

I mean she could see the future, but no one would believe her.. so why didn't she make up a lie, or be vauge enough about it. Instead of saying that a war is going to break out in Troy, she could have hired a servant, dressed her up as a reputable psychic, and paid her to say the prophesies. That way, people would believe the assistant, if not the psychic herself...
There needed to be more clever trickester people in history that could come up with this stuff.. sheesh.
